I just wanted to say I think I liked your presentation the best in our class (shh don’t tell anyone). Your textual analysis of Khaled Hasseini was incredibly in-depth, yet entirely understandable, and your textual connections to your poetry and AP Prompts were clear and intelligent, and I think you just overall did a fantastic job. The books you read dealt with very adult, thematic content, and you delivered the meanings of the works as a whole with the appropriate sensitivity, maturity, and professionalism.
I also thought that the overall breakdown of your presentation was fantastic. I thought it was genius to include a timeline of Afghanistan for background and listing the setting, point-of-view, themes/issues, and literary/stylistic devices of both novels you read and analyzed made the presentation easy to follow, and made it feel as though we did not need to know anything about either of the books beforehand to be able to understand the message being conveyed, and most importantly why that message is of importance. Your breakdown of the literary devices in the poetry you chose tied back to your novels was fluid, and I thought it was also just genius of you to highlight your prose passages to really see what phrases are supposed to stand out in the body of text, and see how it relates to the political turmoil of Afghanistan, and Hasseini’s outspokenness of it.
Your presentation was definitely one of the best in the class. Throughout the entire presentation I felt engaged and felt that you as a speaker had great ethos. It was obvious that you were extremely knowledgeable about your topic and had a very thorough understanding of your author's style. All the background you gave about the time period, and specifically the Pashtuns and Hazaras was so in depth and explained so well that I felt like I had a very good understanding of Hosseini's work without having read it.
It was great to see the influences, and specific quotes from him about them, at the beginning to give us a better understanding of your author and what his writing would be focused on. The thematic connections you made with the poetry you used were again, very helpful in creating a deeper understanding of the texts you read for the audience. It was great that you had so many examples throughout your presentation, almost every device that you discussed had an example to go along with it, it was helpful for me to see how they could all be used in writing and what effects they specifically could have. As a whole your presentation was amazing, your understanding and passion for this topic were obvious and it was very beneficial in your delivery.
